A beach trip is a wonderful time, whether it be with friends or family. The sun may beat down, but the cooling waves and the spray of salt do more than enough to keep the heat at bay, and does little to distract from the activities the beach has to offer. Throwing a frisbee, wakeboarding, or simply digging a hole are all activities that can entertain even the most averse beach haters. However, the fun had at the beach is very much dependent on the tools brought. No sunscreen not only ruins that day, but has the potential to ruin the entire vacation with searing burns and crawfish red skin. No balls or throwables leaves parents struggling to entertain their hyperactive kids, and even though digging through sand with your hands are an option, having tools to sculpt and aid with the task is much more appreciated.
Unfortunately, it is common to forget miscellaneous items on beach trips. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and toys are common forgotten items, but food and drink can also be scarcities, particularly on a long beach day. This is where camp stores come to the rescue. Stocked with both essential and unimportant supplies, the convenience these stores offer do wonders to alleviate the stress a last-minute grocery run would have caused. Because of this, the State of California is also seeking bids to award a ten year concession contract to operate a camp store and restaurant operation at San Elijo State Beach Campground.
A camp store makes sense, but a restaurant also provides added benefits to the beach. The restaurant can also act as a social hub, where beach goers can gather and socialize with a meal that is not just makeshift sandwiches or pizza. The restaurant gives the beach a unique opportunity to showcase local foods and seafood San Elijo may have, all caught directly on the coast they are currently on, and for the grown folk it can be a good and safe place to drink after tiring from the day activities on the beach. Special events can be celebrated here as well, potentially making it a popular venue for live music or themed parties, all contributing to the fun and relaxed energy a beach trip should have.
